Procedure Stations

Clarity in Emergency Medicine

The three Procedure Stations focus on carrying out specific procedures within a clinical context.

Station 1: Airway and Breathing Procedures

  • Chin-lift, jaw-thrust

  • Ventilation via pocket-mask and bag-valve-mask (1 person and 2 person technique)

  • Oropharyngeal airway, nasopharyngeal airway

  • Foreign body aspiration algorithm

  • Laryngeal mask airway

  • Endotracheal intubation

  • Cricothyrotomy (”scalpel-finger-bougie-tube” technique)

Station 2: Circulation Procedures and Immobilization

  • Intraosseous needle, tibial and humeral head insertion

  • Pelvic girdle

  • Femur traction splint

  • Spinal immobilization from supine, prone and standing

  • Canadian C-Spine Rule and NEXUS Low-Risk Criteria

Station 3: Pleural Procedures and Emergency Delivery

  • Chest tube insertion

  • Catheter insertion via the Seldinger technique

  • Delivery: normal, shoulder dystocia, breech

  • Neonatal resuscitation
