A checklist is an organized list of actions or assessments meant to be carried out systematically. Checklists have been used in the aviation industry, the military and the construction industry among other fields to reduce the risk of error. In medicine, checklist use has been associated with a decreased rate of catheter-related bloodstream infections and reduced morbidity and mortality associated with surgery.
LUCEM members are currently conducting a trial of checklists in the Emergency Department to improve the management of patients presenting with critical conditions.
