PELVIC GIRDLE

Indication

  • Suspected fracture of the pelvic ring following high-energy trauma

Contraindications

  • Low-energy trauma

  • Lateral compression

  1. Prior

  • Gently assess the stability of the pelvic ring

  • Assess femoral pulses and gross motor/sensory function in the legs

  1. Procedure

  • Adduct the legs and rotate them inwards

  • Place the girdle under the patient’s back minimizing patient movement

  • Center the girdle over the major trochanter

  • Apply concentric force and lock the girdle

  1. Post

  • Reassess femoral pulses and gross motor/sensory function in the legs

  • Pelvic X-ray
